Medicare Supplement Insurance
Medigap Coverage:
Does It Pay For Everything That Medicare Doesn't Cover?Medicare
Supplement Insurance has 10 distinct plans to manage the co-insurance, co-pays
and two deductibles that can cost you money with Medicare's coverage. You can
also find Medicare Supplement Insurance that expands Medicare's coverage. While
Medicare has no help if you need emergency care when vacationing abroad, Medicare
Supplement Insurance can pick up 80 percent of emergency medical care in other
countries.Let's
take a look at which Medigap
Policies cover Medicare's deductibles. To protect you from the Part A deductible
of $1,100 per illness, you have a choice of nine different Medigap Policies.
You can also select to be reimbursed for 50, 75 or 100 percent of that deductible
with different Medigap Policies.Since
the Part B deductible is much less (just $155 in 2010), only two Medicare
Supplement Plans reimburse for that. Plans C and F cover the Part B deductible.
You'll find that Plan F has the most comprehensive coverage of all the Medicare
Supplement Plans.Also
called Medigap Insurance, these
plans are designed to handle your biggest medical expenses for the highest premiums
and lesser medical costs for lower premiums. Medigap Insurance also helps when
Medicare stops paying for 100-percent of daily hospital charges after 60 days.
Medigap
Plans pick up the charges if you need more than 20 days of skilled nursing
facility care after hospitalization, too. After 20 days, Medicare only pays
for part of your daily fees, but eight Medigap Plans will kick in to cover 50,
75 or 100 percent of those bills. With those Medigap Plans, you can get the
rehab you need to rebuild your stamina and strength after prolonged bed rest
in the hospital.Medigap
Plan F, for example, provides 100-percent coverage for Medicare co-insurance,
co-pays and deductibles as well as 80-percent coverage for emergency medical
care outside of the country. Medigap
Plan F also picks up the excess when doctors charge more than what Medicare
will pay. That help from Medigap Plan F can save you from having to change doctors. All
that coverage does mean higher premiums, so that plan may not be the best choice
for everyone. The Medicare
Supplement Insurance Plans that keep premiums low are ideal if you don't
have high doctor and hospital expenses. A new low-premium plan was just added
to the Medicare Supplement Insurance Plans in June 2010.Medicare
Supplement Plan N cuts premium costs by not covering Medicare's $155 annual
deductible to see doctors or the excess when doctor bills exceed Medicare's
payment limits. Medicare Supplement Plan N may be ideal if you only require
preventive doctor services, such as check-ups, flu shots, etc. With
Medicare Supplemental Health Insurance, you have the freedom to pick the coverage
level that fits your situation. You can protect yourself from expected medical
bills with the most comprehensive Medicare
Supplemental Health Insurance, or only buy the coverage you expect to need. That's
the flexibility of Medicare Supplemental
Insurance. It offers various combinations of benefit packages and different
percentages of coverage. Medicare Supplemental Insurance
can provide as much or as little protection against the gaps in your Medicare
benefits as you think you will need. This
flexibility it makes it easier to choose the best
Medicare Supplement for your budget and your needs. The best Medicare Supplement
is the one that saves you the most money at the lowest price. When
you are looking for the best Medigap
Insurance, get out your actual bills for last year's medical costs. Guessing
about what you're likely to need help paying for is one of the worst ways to
look for the best Medigap Insurance.Once
you know which Medigap coverage fits your needs, compare rates from different
companies to get the best deal on your Medigap
coverage. If an insurer charges more for Plan F, for example, it doesn't
mean that plan has any more Medigap coverage than a lower-priced Plan F from
another company. In
addition to federal and state laws that protect you, standardization regulates
Medigap Insurence. Every plan labeled
with the same letter (Plans A through N), has the same coverage regardless of
which insurer sells it. That's how you can be sure of the coverage you are getting
with your Medigap Insurence.Medigap
comparisons can help you get the lowest price for the plan you choose, but
you never have to compare one Plan A, for instance, to a Plan A from a different
company.Certain
companies do pack their Medicare Supplement
Insurence with additional helpful features, though. Some insurers make it
easier for you to cut your healthcare bills, monitor your health and track your
expenses with their Medicare Supplement Insurence.Humana
Medicare Supplement plans include online access to such aids via the Internet.
Humana uses Smart Summary and Smart Summary Rx to make your Humana Medicare
Supplement a more effective tool in protecting your health and reducing your
medical bills.You
may have also heard of Medicare
Advantage Plans. These are not to be confused with Medigap because Medicare
Advantage Plans replace your governmental Medicare coverage. Medicare Advantage
Plans do extend Medicare's coverage, but they don't complete Medicare like Medigap.
